Brian Hacker has served the community for much of his career. Most recently, he began teaching English in a local high school. Prior to that, he worked in healthcare and school district communications. Now, he plans to serve the Town of Matthews.
The thought of running for political office had been simmering for a few years. With all that has been happening in the country since January 2016, he has been trying to find a way to help. While observing what has been happening in Matthews, he realized keeping his plan local is the best decision. Why? Local is where it all starts!
Brian believes that Matthews is a town for everyone! With amazing schools, parks, greenways, restaurants, shops and other opportunities, we need to make sure that growth is steady and manageable. We need to welcome everyone who is a resident, potential resident, and a visitor. This includes those outside the power structure (people of color, LGBTQ+, all socioeconomic levels, etc.).
He wants to make sure everyone is represented in town planning and projects. Matthews is now a destination community. The town has changed and so have its residents. There is not one type of family living in Matthews and the town needs to acknowledge that. Our festivals are some of the best attended in the region.
Brian moved to North Carolina from California in 2010 and he made the move to Matthews in 2012. He is married to Merrill who introduced him to the wonderful Town of Matthews! They have three daughters who are busy with their own lives. Since their daughters are out of the home either married or at school, they have Pluma, a Guatemalan street dog (adopted from Guatemala), and one black cat named Screamer to keep them company.
Brian looks forward to getting to know his constituents. Below are a few ways to contact him. Please, let him know your thoughts and how he could best serve you as a Town of Matthews Commissioner.
The Town of Matthews needs someone who will serve the entire community. There should be no hidden agendas or people left out when decisions are made. Every resident and visitor matters and they need to know that.
Brian Hacker is that person!
